The Hidden Lies We Tell

The Hidden Lies We Tell Ourselves

Hidden lies? What does that even mean?

Have you ever woken up and immediately told yourself, “Of course, today is going to be so stressful”? Maybe you’ve muttered, “I can’t catch a break,” or found yourself spiraling into thoughts like, “Why does this always happen to me?”

Let’s pause right there.

What if the way you talk about your day is actually shaping the kind of day you’re going to have?

What if the thoughts you’re thinking are habits—mental routines you’ve been practicing for years, and they’re not even true?

This is a powerful truth to hold onto: your thoughts are not facts. They are familiar. And because they’re familiar, they feel real. But that doesn’t mean they’re serving you, or even coming from you.

The Hidden Lies We Tell OurselvesAre You Letting Your External Reality Dictate Your Internal State?

Most of us don’t realize how much we allow outside circumstances to dictate how we feel. We think, “This situation is stressful, so I feel stressed.” But it’s not the situation, it’s how we interpret it.

Your words are powerful. When you tell yourself your day is going to be hard, chaotic, or exhausting, you’re reinforcing that expectation. You’re setting your brain up to look for evidence that proves your story right. That’s not woo-woo; that’s neuroscience.

What if, instead, you started with a different question:

“What kind of day do I want to have?”
Then, start speaking about that day.

Instead of saying:
➡️ “It’s going to be a crazy day.”
Try:
✅ “Today is going to challenge me in all the best ways.”
✅ “I’m ready to move through today with peace and clarity.”

The Lies We Tell Ourselves (Without Realizing It)

Think about how often you use phrases like:

  • “I never…”
  • “I always…”
  • “I can’t…”

These are not objective truths. They’re stories. Patterns. Repetitive thought loops that have been on autoplay in your mind. And chances are, these habits didn’t even start with you.

Ask yourself:

  • When did I start thinking this way?
  • Is this belief even mine, or did I pick it up from someone else?
  • What would change if I didn’t believe this anymore?
  • What if the opposite of this thought were true?

You’re Not a Failure—You’re Just in a Pattern

“If the same things keep happening to you, it doesn’t mean you’re doomed or broken. It means you’re in a pattern.”

A pattern is simply a loop your mind has learned to run on. It feels comfortable. Familiar. Predictable. Even if it doesn’t feel good.

The good news? Patterns can be broken. Habits—especially mental ones—can be changed. You don’t need to fix yourself. You just need to become aware.

Try On a New Belief

What happens when you try on a new belief, even if only for a day?

Let’s say you’ve been walking around with the belief:
➡️ “Nothing ever works out for me.”

Now try the opposite:
✅ “Everything is always working in my favor, even when I can’t see it yet.”

Just try it on. Say it. Feel into it. Live with it for a day. Notice what happens.

Does the world look different through that lens?
What new opportunities or solutions come into view?

You don’t have to commit to it forever. But experimenting with new beliefs can open up entire new worlds and show you just how powerful your mind really is.
